Driving the transition to non-ICE vehicles and to embrace the opportunity to tackle climate change.
The transition from ICE through to low carbon, ZEV or other mobility solutions over the coming decades is one of the fundamental energy transitions taking place globally.
It will have a significant impact on countries and corporates achieving the goals set out by the Paris Agreement for limiting climate change and delivering on the responsibility we have to protect the planet and the communities in which we live and work.
For Redde Northgate and many of our vehicle hire customers involved in logistics and transportation, this transition is central to achieving corporate net zero strategies. It has far reaching consequences across the supply chain, and for achieving timeframes for emission reduction milestones.
Our progress
FY2022:
What we said we would do
- Continue to increase the availability of suitable non-ICE vehicles for our customers.
- Enhance our understanding of our Scope 3 emissions, beyond customer vehicle use.
- Maintain strong governance and oversight of climate-related risk.
FY2023:
What we have done
- Continued to expand our range of e-LCVs with 12 UK and 16 Spanish models available and over 4,700 vehicles on fleet.
- Formed an alliance with Iberdrola, Spain’s largest utility service provide to accelerate the electrification of industrial vehicle fleets.
- Installed 6,700 EV chargers for consumers and commercial clients.
- Ran a programme of EV open days where customers can experience current and future fleet EVs and better understand our Drive to Zero services.
- For our second TCFD report, we built on our 2022 scenario analysis to incorporate site-level physical risk exposure analysis, to further explore potential risks to the business over short, medium and long term.
- Established a Sustainability Committee and supporting sub committees to improve oversight and governance of climate change mitigation measures.
FY2024:
What we plan to do
- Enhance our EV sustainability consulting proposition to support customers to better understand their options for EV adoption.
- Develop relationships with a broader range of OEMs who are embracing new technology to support the transition for Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) fleets.
- Increase the bundling of EV vehicle and charging solutions, move into commercial installations, and to add solar installations for consumers and commercial clients.
- Continue the installation of charging points across our Spanish and UK operating location to promote sustainable mobility and facilitate the penetration of electric vehicles.
- Continue to develop our oversight of climate risks by developing metrics to forecast the potential financial impacts of climate change.
Industry engagement
- OEMs: engaging with broad range of OEMs on their EV plans for LCVs in particular; and technology development for both vehicles and fuels
- BVRLA: supporting industry lobbying efforts with Government departments on regulations which will facilitate the transition to low or zero emission LCVs
Enhancing EV skills and capabilities
- Skills: training across business areas on how to manage EV fleet
- Capabilities: bringing expertise in-house and capability to develop charging infrastructure and consultancy
Infrastructure investment
- Charging points at depots: we are installing EV charging points across our estate
- Kitting out workshops for EV repairs
- Bringing EVs into fleet
Customer support
- Consulting: we have business analysts and EV experts to support customer fleet strategy
- Customer infrastructure: installation of EV chargers
Case study: Seizing the opportunity – Drive to Zero
Our ambition is to provide turnkey solutions to customers, and we launched Drive to Zero in FY2022 to support customers across the wider ZEV ecosystem in which they operate.
Drive to Zero is focused on four key pillars of support:
Suitability analysis
- Analysis on fleet utilisation using telematics data on vehicle journeys, helping to identify which parts of their current fleet might be suitable for an early switch to electric power trains
- Commercial models and cost visibility for transitioning a current fleet set up to lower carbon emission vehicles
- Biofuel options for customers who are not yet able or comfortable transitioning to full EVs
Support and guidance
- Trained workshop technicians supporting service and maintenance for EVs
- Ongoing charging support including remote system upgrades
- RAC partnership offering technicians who are able to keep EVs on the road and charge up where necessary
- Training modules for drivers and fleet managers on fleet management
- EV operation to maximise uptime availability
Vehicle Rental
- Offering low emission vehicle solutions, including modern Euro 6 compliant ICEs, or through our growing portfolio of EVs
Electric Charging Infrastructure
- Providing EV charging infrastructure to fleets across domestic, commercial or public vehicles with a digital onboarding service
