Follow usCaring about our colleagues
We listen to our colleagues to understand what is important to them, and what they expect from a responsible employer. How we ensure their well-being, value and reward their efforts, and how they can be supported to learn and grow at work, are each key parts of the long term relationship we seek to build with each and every colleague.
We’re building an inclusive business that supports everyone to be their best, and that includes helping every colleague stay physically, mentally, and financially well.
We want everyone to feel comfortable asking for support where they need it. Our colleagues told us in our annual engagement survey, they wanted more support around mental and physical health. We’ve listened and are building a new well-being approach which centres around three key themes – Get Well, Be Well, and Keep Well.
Keep well
And we’ll do this through things like:
- Signing the Time to Change Pledge
- Building a strong network of wellbeing champions and expand where we don’t currently have a network
- Providing additional support for managers
- Resilience training on The Academy
- Continue to launch new benefits on the Benefits HUB which positively influence mental, physical and financial well-being
- Promoting internal resources through our wellbeing hub on Benefits HUB EXTRA like our Employee Assistance Programme and lots more
Get well
And we’ll do this through things like:
- Continue to provide support through occupational health services
- HR support from prevention through to treatment
- Providing early intervention for absences
- Encouraging the use of internal resources available at Redde Northgate
Be well
And we’ll do this through things like:
- Review policies and procedures
- Continue with free flu vaccinations
- Virtual training to support colleague well-being
- Creating dedicated digital well-being areas full of relevant support
- Individual support based on bespoke needs
We’ve invested in a number of support tools, initiatives and benefits to empower our colleagues to take control of their own needs and to access the support they want, including:
- EAP: A funded, Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) offering:
- Help@hand.
- Remote GP; Second Opinion; Mental Health Support; Physiotherapy Support; Life, Money & Wellbeing Support.
- Cancer assist – offers in-the-moment cancer guidance.
- Flexible Life Assurance, allowing colleagues to increase cover to 10x salary
- BUPA Dental Plans & Westfield Health Cash plans, even free flu jabs ahead of the winter months!
- GymFlex membership schemes offering discounts of up to 40% across over 3,300 sites nationwide.
- Improved Family Friendly policies.
We’ve made positive changes to our Family Friendly policies too, ensuring our colleagues have clearer (and better) support through life changes, with increases in our Maternity & Adoption, Paternity, Bereavement, Dependants and Emergency leave entitlements to ensure that colleagues can put themselves and their families first, when the time comes.
There is work still to do but we make a commitment to all colleagues to consistently seek to improve our ability and increase our capacity to support colleagues, both physically and mentally, by putting more of the right tools in place.
Our colleagues tell us they’re proud to be part of Redde Northgate and take huge pride in the invaluable help and support they provide to their customers.
They give their all for our customers and each other. So, it’s important to us that everyone feels valued for playing their part. That’s why our rewards go far beyond a competitive salary. Some of our most popular rewards and benefits include:
- Above National Living Wage Minimum Pay Rates: We recognise the contribution of all of our colleagues – colleagues receive a market-competitive salary reflecting the role that they do, with a minimum pay rate above the National Living wage.
- Free Life Assurance: All Colleagues enjoy the peace of mind of free Life Assurance cover (2x annual salary), paid to nominated beneficiaries should the worst happen.
- Save As You Earn: We want everyone to benefit from our success – our SAYE scheme allows colleagues to put money aside to buy shares in Redde Northgate at a discounted rate.
- Contributory Pension Scheme: helping our colleagues save for the future.
- Car Leasing Scheme: Colleagues can take advantage of either a Salary Sacrifice of PCH vehicle schemes, with the business sharing the benefit of our position in the market – the scheme particularly aims to help colleagues choosing hybrid or EV vehicles as part of our ESG strategy.
- Exclusive Discounts: Colleagues enjoy access to hundreds of unlimited special discounts and savings on a huge range of products through our Benefits HUB Extra App.
We know it’s our talented colleagues who really make us the success we are, and we are committed to continuing to continue to invest in their skills and potential.
- Proven induction plan: Every role at Redde Northgate comes with the possibility to learn and grow. Of course, the type of training and development opportunities we provide, will be guided by the role. What we do guarantee, is a proven induction plan to help colleagues make the most of their role and a personalised development plan that offers every opportunity to gain experience and learn new skills.
- Learning Academy: Through our online Learning Academy and on-the-job mentoring, the learning we offer is continuous – our businesses operate in ever-changing marketplaces, so we do all we can to ensure colleagues have the skills, knowledge and expertise to stay at the top of their game.
- Culture of progression: All of our businesses have a well-established culture of progression, with many of our current leadership community having progressed through our organisation. Alongside those roles with a more traditional career path to follow, there can be flexibility in the way we can help colleagues to develop a less ‘formal’ route, with potential for lateral moves into other businesses, specialisms and skillsets too.
- Introduction to Management Programme: If you see yourself as leader, our Introduction to Management Programme can really help you make the step too.
- ‘Early Talent’ team: Through our dedicated ‘Early Talent’ team, we’re prioritising investment in our future experts, developing a growing community of apprentices in a whole host of sectors from automotive technicians, to finance and IT, through to specialist insurance and customer services programmes.

Apprenticeship programme
Building a talented workforce
Apprenticeships are a great way to help our business build a talented workforce that is equipped with future-ready skills, whilst also being an opportunity for those looking to upskill or have a career change.
We partner with industry leading training providers who work with major automotive manufacturers to support the recruitment and training elements of our apprenticeships, alongside our own inhouse academy.
Last year we supported over 50 apprenticeships, from workshop placements in our FMG RS and Northgate businesses, to finance apprenticeships in our Group functions.
Armed Forces Covenant
Proudly supporting those who serve
We are proud to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant to confirm our commitment to those who serve or have served and their families. We endeavour to ensure that they will be treated fairly and be welcomed as both customers and/or colleagues at Redde Northgate.
We recognise the value that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families can bring to our business, including the character traits and behaviours (such as team work, hard work and integrity) that can contribute so positively to our working environments.
Case study: Apprenticeship programme
We have designed our apprenticeship programme at FMG RS to allow us to access a more diverse pool of talented individuals.
From our FMG RS Canterbury body shop, Beth Creaser won the Apprentice Paint Technician of the Year Award at the British Bodyshop Awards. This is a fantastic achievement, and even more notable as the industry tends to be male-dominated.
Being a paint sprayer has really opened my eyes and made me realise you can have a job which you enjoy. There is a really cheery atmosphere in the workshop and everyone has made me feel a real part of the team which has helped with my confidence massively.
Beth Creaser
Beth came to me three years ago, with a passion for cars and interest in the repair industry. She and I agreed that we would try every department to see what she enjoyed the most. It was clear Beth had a talent for refinishing and she’s now in the final stages of her apprenticeship. This award is well deserved and really complements the hard work and effort Beth has put in throughout her apprenticeship. I couldn’t be more proud.
