Do you make sacrifices for the sake of your team? If not, you should. Today we are working with a newly formed multi-disciplinary team at Southport hospital. Southport has recently merged with Whiston and there has been a lot of change taking place. Over the next 6 months we will be helping them to create a vision, values and team charter of how they want to behave both internally and externally. To help them we will be using Lencioni's 5 Behaviours®. When I was discussing this with a key stakeholder yesterday, she said "surely everyone is focused on team results?" Interestingly research by Lencioni and others has demonstrated that in many teams, individuals are often focused on their own results. Individuals want the next promotion, the next big bonus or pay rise or just to stand in the spotlight. They focus on such things to the detriment of the team. Teams that have worked successfully with The 5 Behaviours®. ✅ Make sacrifices in areas of individual responsibility for the sake of the team. ✅ Value collective results, rather than individual achievement. ✅ Take responsibility for improving individual performance when results fall short of expectations. ✅ Celebrate individual contributions and achievements that drive toward collective results. So, one of the behaviours I will be encouraging them to adopt is a focus on team results, not individual ones.
