I am pleased to share with you the news that the decarbonisation targets of Inter Cars S.A. have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. In 2023, as part of our revised Sustainability Strategy and Decarbonisation Strategy, we adopted GHG reduction targets for all Inter Cars Group companies. These have been verified by the international organisation SBTi, which confirms that they are in line with the latest scientific findings on climate. We are among only a dozen or so companies from Poland that have decided to subject their targets to such detailed, independent analysis. We are in the process of preparing a Sustainability Report, in which we will tell more about the revised strategy, the targets adopted by 2030 and the actions currently being taken to achieve them. Inter Cars Together - towards emission reductions! You can find more on this topic here: https://lnkd.in/dTtH_Un6 #InterCarsTogether #ESG

I was delighted to be featured in Automotive World yesterday. I had the opportunity to talk about the importance of sustainable transport and the journey we're on, in particular how it links to the success of the TRATON GROUP #Sustainability is an ongoing journey with no definitive end. For #TRATON and our brands Scania Group, MAN Truck & Bus SE, Navistar Inc and Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus, sustainability means continuously developing our business and value chain in economic, ecological and social terms. Or put in different terms; maximize the benefits to our customers and society at large throughout the lifecycle of our products, while minimizing and mitigating the negative impacts to which we may contribute. The transportation industry is transitioning from diesel-powered internal combustion engines to entirely electric vehicles, fueled by green electricity, in just two decades or so. This shift represents an unparalleled and rapid transformation, across all adjacent industries. Despite the substantial expenses, embracing this sustainable path is crucial to secure the future of transportation. Aligning our strategies, plans and roadmaps with an aggressive carbon reduction timetable is therefore the next milestone we aim to achieve. When one of our brands is taking the lead in a specific domain, we will leverage this to motivate the other three brands to follow suit. A simple but powerful theory of change. And while our TRATON brands have already started making the shift from diesel to battery-electric vehicles, this alone is not enough; we need to be able to operate them on a large scale. Offering #BEVs is vital, but the key to boosting EV uptake is creating a high-speed public charging network. That's why Milence, TRATON's joint venture with rivals Daimler and Volvo, aims to install at least 1,700 green energy charging points to kick-start a European charging network. While this is only a portion of what's needed, it demonstrates our commitment. You can read more about why I believe the transition to sustainability is imperative for the transport industry here: https://lnkd.in/daSWfmaH

The agreement to pursue zero emissions for Europe’s new cars by 2035 - backed up by strong charging infrastructure and development of alternatives such as 🚅 network, and the sustainable 🔋 regulation - has set a clear direction and an unequivocal target for sustainable transport measures. 🎯 However, in order to make the #cleanmobility transition a reality, and bring its benefits to people, the planet and European business, it is vital that we accompany it now with strong #industrialpolicy. Or as Renata Surowiec, director at #Ford, put it last month at a policy conference in Brussels: 🗣️ "We are committed to the green goal, to deliver it we need a strong industrial plan." Making the transition to e-mobility must be a priority, not simply to deliver environmental sustainability but also to reinforce the EU’s industrial strength, security and competitiveness.

The European Commission’s upcoming Greening Corporate Fleets Initiative offers a golden opportunity to not only tackle transport emissions, but widen access to cheaper second-hand electric vehicles. 8 in 10 Europeans buy their car from the second-hand market - which is fed directly by used company cars. Purchase decisions for corporate fleets have a huge impact on the rest of the car market. Today T&E and partners BEUC - The European Consumer Organisation and the Climate Group are calling on the European Commission to propose binding zero-emission purchase targets for corporate fleets of 50% in 2027 and 100% in 2030. This proposal should be created without any further delay to ensure progress is made on the electrification of corporate fleets before it is too late. Read the letter ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eR5KK52J

At #TRATONGROUP, we're committed to becoming even more responsible as a company, with all brands making considerable efforts and progress in becoming more #sustainable. Andreas Follér, Chief Sustainability Officer at TRATON is steering our Group’s sustainability efforts. With more than 20 years of experience working in the field of #sustainability, he spent eight years as Head of Sustainability at Scania prior to taking on his current position at the start of 2023. In an interview with Automotive World, Andreas outlines his roadmap for a profitable approach to sustainable #development across our Scania Group, MAN Truck & Bus SE, Navistar Inc and Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus brands. Andreas explains how sustainability is driving the success of the entire TRATON GROUP, citing key case studies from both Scania and Navistar. In April 2023 for example, Scania in cooperation with Northvolt unveiled a lithium-ion cell with the capacity to power trucks for 1.5 million kilometres and with a carbon footprint approximately one-third that of a comparative industry reference. This is great news says Andreas, as the environmental impact of battery cell production is significant. Andreas also stressed the importance of #charging infrastructure for the uptake of EVs. To pave the way for e-mobility, #TRATON is making significant #investments in #infrastructure via the Milence joint venture, which plans to invest €500 million over the next five years to build an open, accessible European #network of 1,700 green energy high-performance public #charging points. Read more about why Andreas Follér believes in the importance of #SustainableTransportation and supporting wider #SustainabilityInitiatives in the interview. #TransformingTransportationTogether

Public transit plays a vital role in Continental's tires supporting sustainable transportation and crucial to environmental protection and climate change mitigation. In passenger transportation – and especially local public transit – the number of electric buses is rising all the time. Many cities all over the world already operate all-electric bus fleets. Continental is collaborating closely with a range of partners including bus manufacturers and public transit operators to optimize our tires as effectively as possible in line with the requirements of electric buses. Continental already includes a number of suitable tires. At IAA Transportation 2022, Continental showcased a concept tire specially designed for electrified city buses and delivery vehicles in urban environments. Already approved for road use, this concept tire has a renewable and recycled materials content of around 50 percent. All the materials used could potentially be deployed right now in series production. When designing the tire, Continental’s tire developers focused their efforts on achieving high energy efficiency and optimizing noise emissions.

Contributing to sustainability is a core element of Thomas Hardie Commercials corporate strategy and of our core values. Whilst our approach to sustainability continues to develop, we have implemented a long-term plan for how we operate, this forms part of our Green Team initiative which will seek to reduce our overall environmental impact. This year we demonstrated our commitment to sustainability yet further when a decision was made to opt for an all-electric company car fleet, the order is set to be fulfilled in full by the end of the year. Our fleet of electrified demonstrator vehicles is helping transport operators to identify how they can significantly reduce emissions, as well as having a notable impact on their overall running costs when compared to diesel. We've made a commitment and are determined to continue driving our industry toward a more sustainable future. We believe we have a responsibility to act on climate change and are working to embed environmental sustainability across our organisation.
